Bookworms in Paradise

Thirty-three years ago, the first Friends of the Library Booksale was held.  It raised only a few thousand dollars, but that was enough to keep a dedicated crew of volunteers working.  Years later, the annual sale has brought in over $2.9 million in grants for the Metropolitan Library System and has grown to become one of the largest book sales in America.

This year, volunteers are packing over 500,000 books into the Oklahoma Expo Hall.  From fiction to non-fiction, cookbooks to biographies, medical journals to western romance novels, children’s books to encyclopedias and reference books; there genuinely is something for everyone at this sale. In addition to the wide variety of books, DVDs, videos and audiobooks will be available.  All books are offered at rock-bottom prices.  Most hardbacks are priced at $1 and paperbacks and magazines are fifty cents.  If you are a collector, check out the special section where books are individually priced, most less than five dollars.

Win Tickets to the Pre-Sale Party

We’ve got 10 tickets to Friday’s Pre-Sale Party to give away to our readers.  All you have to do to be eligible to win is leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite book of all time is.  The hard part:  you can only list ONE book!

We’ll randomly select winners at noon on Wednesday, February 22, 2012.  Winners will receive 2 tickets to the Pre-Sale Party.  Tickets must be picked up at the State Fair Administration Building by 5 PM on Friday, February 24, 2012.

If you don’t win tickets, don’t fret. You may purchase Friends of the Library memberships, which include tickets to the pre-sale party, in the lobby on Friday from noon to 4:00 p.m. and again after 6:00 p.m.  Memberships are $10 for individual/family memberships (4 pre-sale tickets) and $6 for seniors (2 pre-sale tickets).
